چکیده

The ever-increasing demand for renewable energy storage has led to the development of many systems, such as redox flow batteries (RFBs), including vanadium, iron–chromium, and copper battery (CuRFB). A multitude materials electrolytes have been investigated improve performance CuRFB using an in-house manufactured cell. Using carbon ink coatings negative electrode modern ion exchange membranes (IEMs), this version was improved current efficiencies above 95% with high voltage up 81%, thereby improving efficiency by nearly 9% over previous state art at 20 mA cm?2. Additionally, operating time significantly extended 210 h operation (50 cycles), 32% capacity remaining, without maintenance. Finally, stability new system IEMs proven 1200 operation, 300 charge discharge cycles performed.

Towards a thermally regenerative all-copper redox flow battery.

An all-copper redox flow battery based on strong complexation of Cu(+) with acetonitrile is demonstrated, exhibiting reasonable battery performance. More interestingly, the battery can be charged by heat sources of 100 °C, by distilling off the acetonitrile. This destabilizes the Cu(+) complex, leading to recovery of the starting materials.

Membranes for Redox Flow Battery Applications

The need for large scale energy storage has become a priority to integrate renewable energy sources into the electricity grid. Redox flow batteries are considered the best option to store electricity from medium to large scale applications. However, the current high cost of redox flow batteries impedes the wide spread adoption of this technology. The membrane is a critical component of redox fl...

Towards an all-copper redox flow battery based on a copper-containing ionic liquid.

The first redox flow battery (RFB), based on the all-copper liquid metal salt [Cu(MeCN)4][Tf2N], is presented. Liquid metal salts (LMS) are a new type of ionic liquid that functions both as solvent and electrolyte. Non-aqueous electrolytes have advantages over water-based solutions, such as a larger electrochemical window and large thermal stability. The proof-of-concept is given that LMSs can ...

Chloride supporting electrolytes for all-vanadium redox flow batteries.

This paper examines vanadium chloride solutions as electrolytes for an all-vanadium redox flow battery. The chloride solutions were capable of dissolving more than 2.3 M vanadium at varied valence states and remained stable at 0-50 °C. The improved stability appeared due to the formation of a vanadium dinuclear [V(2)O(3)·4H(2)O](4+) or a dinuclear-chloro complex [V(2)O(3)Cl·3H(2)O](3+) in the s...

A Membrane‐Free Redox Flow Battery with Two Immiscible Redox Electrolytes

Flexible and scalable energy storage solutions are necessary for mitigating fluctuations of renewable energy sources. The main advantage of redox flow batteries is their ability to decouple power and energy. However, they present some limitations including poor performance, short-lifetimes, and expensive ion-selective membranes as well as high price, toxicity, and scarcity of vanadium compounds...
